Sitting on pins and needles

by: Suzette on Mon, Feb 25 2008

An area of atelectasis (lft lingula) was mentioned on CT for cardiac scoring. Radiologist recomended f/u evaluation with chest CT. Family MD said nothing to worry..4mo later I requested the CT be done. Report indicated 11mmX 13mm nodule, possible scarring. Radiologist recommended f/u for mass in liver (possible hemangioma). Nodule same. 6mos later- scan again stated 11X13 nodule; no mention of liver and noted 7mm renal calcification.

Referred to pulmonologist who recommeded PET. It was cancelled b/c insurance denied cert. and MD stated that upon further investigation he too is in agreement with f/u CT in 3mos. I am 52 and smoked for 10yrs. I have also been exposed to aflatoxins and various solvents benzene/toluene ect. b/c of various jobs in research over a period of 5years. I also had a mole removed that contained dysplatic mylanocytes. Should I seek 2nd opinion and if so could PET be coded differently so that insurance would pay?

I also have a nodule, I live in the desert and I was told the other day I have something called, Valley Fever. I am going to research this further but the best advice anyone can give is to see a onocologist [oncologist], see a lung specialist, have the Cat Scans, have the blood tests and find out what you have for sure.
