To quickly access health information from your website's browser, download Mother w/COPD in ICU No Voice My mother was 76 yrs old and fell in April, shattered her knee. She had to have surgery, found out she had her valve replacement narrowing, but went ahead to do the surgery. She had COPD but we did not know what stage. She was on O2 24 hr. low amount. While in the hospital, she developed Pneumoia-double and was on antibotics. It was helping, but then all of a sudden, she got worse, and no antiobotic would clear it up, my questions, is near the end, from using the inhalers, having the cortisones etc. she lost her voice and couldn’t speak and could only wisper. No one could tell us why. She eventually passed away suddenly, one day she was fine and the next day she kept sleeping and couldn’t open her eyes and wake up - was on the bipak, and 02, to assist with her breathing. I think the pneuomia killed her in the end, but no one could tell us why she couldn’t talk. I want to tell everyone who know someone who smokes, to please tell them to stop, it is a horrible disease to watch someone almost suffocate with breathing. If anyone knows why she could have lost her voice, please let me know. Alisa Comments
